1. The pilot compares his severe injury to like finding a dead cat on the sofa.
The simile reveals that the pilot state of mind is that his leg was a great mess with a lot of blood but there was no pain.

2. The repetition heightens the suspense of the story because the pilot is injured but doesn't feel any pain so they think they're okay but then the pilot didn't feel good and thought that he was going to pass out.

3. I think the pilot is afraid to land in the water because he was scared to pass out before he pulled the cord to land.

4. I think the pilot passed out when he described the clouds and sun as whiteness and darkness.

5. The details revealed that he was in the middle of war period because he hears the plane in the sky but doesn't hear bombs.

6. If the planes were German bombers, that could signify trouble and that the Britains were attacking .It could signify the spread of the battle. From the nurse's actions, I can infer that she is trying to keep the pilot from worrying about the war. I think she is trying to prevent him from taking any actions that would cause the battle to begin in Brighton. Also i can infer that she doesn't want him to be out of bed and walking around because he needs to regain energy.
7. I think the pilot thinks the nurse is lying about where he is, so now he feels like he can't trust her. I think he thinks he is somewhere other than Brighton.
8. From the pilots actions, I can infer that he is determined and scared. Also, that he does not trust people. The pilot's determination makes him go on and and fight so that he will know things for himself and don't have to go by what others say.
9. The pilot believes he is in France because of the words on the sign. Also all of his surroundings differ from what they look like in Brighton.
10. I can infer that the pilot believes he is being set-up, to believe he is somewhere he isn't && finding out things that is false. I think he realizes this and so he only says what his squadron officer would've told him to say.
11. After having read this story, I can infer that the character is difficult. He is tentative, skeptical, determined, and a bit eccentric. Even though he has doubt, he doesn't let that keep him from playing the game && doing what it is what he got to do. At the end of the story, I think he has made the right decision.
